In conversation with Cass Dalglish, Devoney Looser presents Sister Novelists at Magers & Quinn Booksellers, Minneapolis.
Devoney Looser is an internationally recognized literary critic and Jane Austen scholar. Her nonfiction historical work, Sister Novelists, is the story of the Porter Sisters, Jane and Maria, who were well known as fiction writers in 1790s London, well before Jane Austen Austen and the Bronte Sisters. Jane Porter has been credited as the founder of contemporary historical fiction. As has happened to other women writers, the works of the Porters slipped off the shelves and out of the memories of readers until Devoney Looser brought them back to literary audiences in this significant investigative work.
